Privacy policy

Your videos stay on your phone. This policy explains the little we do collect to run ZapZoop, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
ZapZoop (the Android app com.zapzoop.video and the website zapzoop.xyz) is operated by ZapZoop, Germany (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described here. Questions or requests: privacy@zapzoop.xyz.

What the app collects
Your videos, photos and projects
You choose media with Android's photo picker. ZapZoop edits and exports it entirely on your device, and saves your projects on your phone. We never receive your clips, photos, projects or exported videos. If you uninstall the app, Android deletes your projects with it.
Your account
Exporting requires signing in with Google. We receive your name, email address, profile photo and a user ID. We use them to identify your account, show your profile in the app, and link your Pro purchase to you so it works on your other Android devices.
Purchases
Pro is bought through Google Play, which handles payment. We never see your card or bank details. We receive the product you bought, the order ID, purchase and renewal dates, trial status, country and price, linked to your user ID so the app knows whether you have Pro.
Usage and device information
To understand how ZapZoop is used, the app records events such as screens viewed, features and tools used, exports, paywall views, purchases and errors. It also records your device model, operating system, app version and language, your approximate location (country and region, derived from your IP address), an app instance ID and, if you are signed in, your user ID. On first launch the app reads the Google Play install referrer, which tells us which campaign or website link led to the install. Where your device allows it, the Android advertising ID may also be used. You can reset or delete it in Android settings under Privacy → Ads.
The app also downloads settings from us to switch features on or off and to tell you about updates.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we receive a push token, your device type, app version, language and time zone, and whether you opened a notification. You can turn notifications off at any time in Android settings.
GIF stickers and online content
When you search GIF stickers, your search terms and IP address are sent to the GIF provider that answers the search. Some animated stickers load from third-party servers, which see your IP address. ZapZoop needs an internet connection and checks whether you are online.
Support
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use it only to help you.
The iPhone waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, your name if you give it, what you make videos about if you tell us, the date you joined, your approximate location (from your time zone) and the link or campaign that brought you. We use this to email you about the iPhone app, early access and the waitlist perks, and to understand interest. We don't send anything else, and every email lets you unsubscribe. To be removed, email privacy@zapzoop.xyz. We delete the waitlist after the iPhone app launches, or sooner if you ask.
The website
Our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and reliability. With your consent where required, we also use analytics and advertising measurement tools. They record pages viewed, clicks on store buttons, approximate location, device and browser, set cookies, and help us see which links and ads lead to visits and installs.
Store buttons pass the campaign that brought you (for example utm_source, or an ad click ID) to Google Play, so an install can be credited to it. The site remembers that campaign, your cookie choice and your currency in your browser's local storage, the campaign for up to 30 days.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you accept them. Anyone can change their choice with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
How we use information
- to provide ZapZoop: sign-in, exports, Pro, notifications;
- to understand usage, fix bugs and improve features;
- to measure marketing and find out which campaigns bring people to ZapZoop;
- to tell waitlist members about the iPhone app;
- to answer support requests and handle refunds;
- to prevent fraud and abuse and to meet legal obligations, such as tax records.
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (account, exports, Pro); our legitimate interests (security, improving the app, basic analytics); your consent (notifications, the waitlist, website cookies, advertising measurement); and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers to run ZapZoop: sign-in, analytics, payments and subscriptions, notifications, GIF search and hosting. They process data only on our behalf or to provide their service, under contracts and their own privacy policies. Google Play processes your purchases under Google's privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our users or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Where data is processed
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where required, they use safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months, then deleted or aggregated.
- Waitlist: until the iPhone app launches, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Support emails: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to receive a copy, to object to or restrict some processing, and to withdraw consent. Email privacy@zapzoop.xyz from the address linked to your account; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
- Delete your account: see how to delete your account.
- Notifications: turn them off in Android settings.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete it in Android settings.
- Website cookies: use Cookie settings in the footer, or your browser settings.
Children
ZapZoop is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you are under 18, please use ZapZoop with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, and our providers protect it with industry-standard safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum and protect it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and change the effective date above. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
